Kimani, Ruth and Caroline are the top three students in their school. All three have troubles at home and want to succeed so they can save their families. But, none of them can afford to continue their education unless they find sponsorship. Secondary school costs roughly $600 (USD) per year. Their only hope is Chris’ scholarship. To qualify, they need a minimum score of 380 on their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam. The KCPE will determine their futures. A high score will admit them to a good secondary school and, eventually, to university. Poor performance can restrict them to a life of manual labor. None of them have electricity at home, and they each find it increasingly hard to study at night.
